SAGE INVENTORY PLANNER ALTERNATIVE

Fuse vs. Sage Inventory Planner

Two demand planning tools, built for different brands. Here's an honest look at each, so you can pick the right one.

Fuse demand planning and inventory software dashboard showing daily SKU-level forecasts

Bottom Line

Inventory Planner by Sage forecasts demand and recommends purchases. It's a strong fit for brands that buy and resell finished goods, especially apparel brands and multi-store retailers that plan with Open-to-Buy budgets.

Fuse is a demand planning and inventory control platform for fast-growing, multi-channel brands that also manage manufacturing, components, and batches. It combines real-time inventory control across every channel and location, AI demand forecasting from bundles to components, and daily cash-flow forecasting, connecting every step from forecast to cash.

If you sell finished goods you buy and resell, both tools can serve you well. If you build, assemble, batch, or bundle what you sell, or you want planning tied directly to cash-flow forecasting and month-end close, that's where Fuse makes more sense for your needs.

Control

You make or assemble what you sell

Fuse supports multi-level BOMs, component order planning, and production allocation.

Confidence

You sell across channels with messy demand

Fuse folds subscriptions, product launches, and lumpy wholesale orders into a single daily forecast for every SKU, so DTC, Amazon, wholesale, and retail all plan from one source of truth.

Confidence

You want a human in the loop

The Forecast Editor lets your planners override the model when they know something it does not. Built by planners, for planners is not a tagline here. It is how the product works.

Control

You handle batches and expiration dates

For beauty, supplements, and food & beverage brands, batch and lot tracking with expiration dates is core, not an afterthought.

Confidence

You sell bundles and kits

Fuse forecasts demand for bundled and kitted products. Brands evaluating both tools tell us this is an area Inventory Planner does not handle well, so if bundles are a meaningful part of your assortment, it is worth testing directly.

Cash

You want planning tied to cash-flow forecasting

Fuse gives you a daily cash-flow forecast, forecast-vs-actual, automated month-end close, and real-time COGS and landed cost, so your inventory plan and your financial plan stay connected.

Fuse does not offer an Open-to-Buy report. If OTB budgeting is your main lever, Inventory Planner has the edge there.

When a company is growing over 150% per year like SuitShop, a dynamic tool that updates inventory demand daily is critical. Fuse has taught us a lot about the popularity of our product assortment and helps us optimize our purchase orders to ensure we make the most of our inventory investments.

CEO, SuitShop

Prior to Fuse, I was managing our entire planning process using Excel, so I oftentimes joke that Fuse was my first hire.

FAQs

Our bundles keep throwing off our forecast. Does Fuse handle that?

Yes. Fuse forecasts demand for bundled and kitted products and rolls it down to the components you need to order.

We build our products from components. Can Fuse handle that?

Yes. Fuse maps finished goods to raw materials and components, supports multi-level BOMs with scrap percentage and labor cost per component, and updates component levels as products are built and sold. The forecast for finished goods flows through the BOM into a components ordering plan, so you know what to buy and when.

Can our planners overrule the AI forecast?

Yes. The Forecast Editor lets your team adjust the model when they know about a promo, a wholesale order, or a launch it can’t see. The forecast is a starting point, but you have complete control.

Can Fuse track what’s actually on our shelves?

Yes. Fuse Inventory Control shows on-hand, allocated, available, and in-transit stock for every SKU in real time, across warehouses, 3PLs, retail stores, and fulfillment centers. Transfer orders move stock between locations and are tracked separately from inbound POs, so you can tell the difference between moving stock and buying more of it.

We handle batches and expiration dates. What happens if we have a recall?

Fuse tracks inventory by batch, lot, or production run, with an expiration date on each batch. You can trace exactly which units came from a given run and spot aging inventory before it expires.

We’re already on Sage. Should we stay there?

If you want Sage AI, Sage Copilot, and Sage Supply Chain Intelligence in one stack, Inventory Planner keeps everything under one roof. If you need multi-level BOMs, batch and lot tracking, or bundle forecasting, Fuse handles those easily.
